Amplifying Student Success
USC Student Life’s dedication to advancing student success is reflected in every facet of our work. Our organization supports the university mission by promoting holistic well-being and student development throughout the university. With professionals committed to this mission, we strive to meet the evolving needs of our students in the present, while considering and preparing for the needs of the students of the future. In collaboration with partners across the university, we are focused on enhancing student success and positively influencing the student experience. Our four priorities are essential to guiding our work and to promoting success for every student. We look forward to the opportunities ahead as we navigate toward 2030, reflecting on the strategic partnerships and initiatives necessary to foster a preeminent experience for USC’s students, in an environment in which they can thrive.
Priorities:
Well-being. Central to the success of students is their well-being. Recognizing that well-being exists at the intersection of health, equity, access, and sustainability, we seek to develop structures and resources that support flourishing in each of these areas. Such work requires collaboration across the university, including connecting students with, and collaborating with, institutional partners outside of Student Life. As champions of student well-being, we advocate for student-centered spaces, resources, and support structures that help students thrive while at USC, allowing them to lead fulfilling lives with a sense of meaning and purpose.
Community. A strong sense of belonging and interpersonal connections are fundamental to student success. Student Life creates spaces and opportunities for students across all academic levels to build relationships, find common ground with others, and feel like a part of the Trojan family. Together we foster a culture where every student feels a strong sense of belonging at USC. By understanding and honoring each student’s unique experience, we can promote the value of community and shared purpose. In collaboration with university partners, we build programs and resources to provide tailored support to meet students’ evolving needs. In doing this, we can help all students build self-confidence, self-awareness, and lifelong relationships that will sustain them throughout their time at USC and beyond.
Engagement. Student Life creates engagement opportunities, both large and small, to empower students to explore passions and actively shape their USC experience. By encouraging active engagement in our events, experiences, and interest-based initiatives, students are able to explore new ideas and participate meaningfully in campus life. Through this, students build connections, deepen their learning, and develop a sense of purpose. When students have a strong sense of self, they are better equipped to navigate challenges and form lasting support systems.
Development. Personal and leadership development are cornerstones for lifelong growth. Guided by USC’s Unifying Values, we support students in understanding who they are, what they value, and how they contribute to their communities. Through intentional programming, advising, and mentorship, Student Life staff challenge and help students to grow as individuals, scholars, and leaders. Whether through leadership roles, student employment, or team-based involvement, students gain the clarity and confidence needed to pursue their goals. The experiences provide them with the skills and insights that will prepare them for success beyond graduation.
